Trainee Swimming Teacher

Institute of Swimming
Closing Date
28 February 2020

As part of the Institute of Swimming's academy, they are looking to train up swimming teachers across Hertfordshire and Stevenage.

Would you like to become a swimming teacher? The academy gives aspiring teachers the opportunity to receive part-funded training, mentoring, and be matched with an employer.

The academy gives trainee teachers the chance to embark on a career as a swimming teacher for only £79, compared to the usual cost of over £1,000. Successful applicants who join the academy will complete their SEQ Level 1 Swimming Assistant (Teaching) and Level 2 Teaching Swimming qualifications.

The academy supports trainees through their training journey with membership and free access to its introduction to swimming strokes online CPDs. In between the courses, there is a period of volunteering with a potential employer to gain practical experience. Trainees also benefit from CPDs to help them develop as well as getting expert advice and support from a mentor to ensure they have the necessary experience for the role and are ready to hit the poolside well equipped to teach.

Teaching Swimming is an active and rewarding role. Work hours are generally part-time; 3:30 pm to 7:00 pm weekdays, and weekends from 8:00 am – 4.00 pm. For these roles, there may be an opportunity to work across the following leisure centres in the Stevenage area:

  • North Herts Leisure Centre, Baldock Rd, Letchworth SG6 2ER
  • Hitchin Swimming Centre, Fishponds Rd, Hitchin SG5 1HA
  • Royston Leisure centre, Woodcock Rd, Royston SG8 7XT

Once qualified successful trainees will be employed as swimming teachers by Stevenage Leisure Limited on a casual or part-time basis.
