Great North Run-ning to raise funds for EFDS

On Sunday 16 September, twenty runners will race in the Bupa Great North Run to raise funds to support EFDS's events programme- Disability Sport Events.

As well as achieving their own personal targets to complete the 13.1 mile course from the centre of Newcastle to South Shields, the runners will all be aiming to hit their personal fundraising targets. These funds will support participation opportunities which have played a part in the development of athletes, including many who were part of ParalympicsGB in the recent London 2012 Games.

Nicola Crawshaw from Whitley Bay, is taking part in her fourth Great North Run and this one has a greater significance. She is running for EFDS but also to raise money for her son's power wheelchair. Olly, who has Spinal Muscular Atrophy, loves sport.

Nicola said:

“The power chair is important for Ollie. But it is also important that EFDS have the support so they can make sport accessible for all. We want sport to play a big part in Olly’s life as it has in ours”

Two staff members from EFDS, Emma Spring (Research and Insight Manager) and Matt Green (Finance Manager) will be part of the 20 strong team in the North East. Having both volunteered at events, they have seen first hand where their fundraising efforts will be spent.

Matt said:

“It is fantastic to be taking part in such an iconic event and this is my first half marathon. I am aiming for a time around two hours whilst raising funds for an events programme which continues to give more disabled people opportunities to participate in sport”

Good luck to all our team of runners!
