February - April               London, Islington, Sobell

March - July                    Romford YMCA

April - June                      Kent, Medway Sports Park

June - August                  London - Surrey Docks

East & Midlands Venue

These InstructAbility courses planned for 2014 are part of a 3 year project to deliver training nationally since receiving over £850,000 of National Lottery funding from Sport England’s Inclusive Sport fund.

The course comprises of an 18 day YMCAfit training course delivered over seven weeks (2-3 days/week, approximately 10.00am - 4.00pm).   The course is designed to give participants the skills, knowledge and confidence to begin their fitness career and includes comprehensive learning resources and all the guidance and support needed to pass.  Successful completion will lead to an internationally recognised qualification, the CYQ Level 2 Certificate in Gym Instructing and a level 3 Disability and Exercise qualification.   Aspire also leads a training session on engagement strategies and presentation skills.

This is followed by the work experience phase - qualified disabled instructors will undertake a twelve week (2-3 days/week) voluntary placement in a public or private fitness gym. Volunteer instructors will engage other disabled people to access the facilities and participate in fitness and exercise sessions.

On completion of the programme instructors are encouraged to continue volunteering or progress into paid employment - see case studies.

If you would like further information about InstructAbility, to book a place on one of the courses or if you would like to host a delegate during their voluntary placement please visit the Instructability website  or email.
