Sir Bobby and Lady Norma Charlton support Visually Impaired Football

Sir Bobby and Lady Norma Charlton along with Mr Tony Larkin (British Blind Sport patron) will be attending the National Visually impaired 5 a side football tournament on Saturday 18 May, in Birmingham.

Organised by British Blind Sport (BBS) this is a unique event in the calendar. Held annually, it has grown in popularity in the past few years and the appearance of the Blind Football team at the Paralympics in London 2012 has further increased interest for this year’s competition

Tony Larkin has confirmed that he will be on hand throughout the day to support the event, share inspirational stories about his own Paralympic experience and to help encourage young players who want to further their ability and knowledge of VI football. Tony is as patron of BBS and was Head Coach for the blind football squad during the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

British Blind Sport, a national charity for blind and visually impaired people, based in Leamington Spa, who inspire and encourage youngsters to get involved in sport with football being a popular avenue for many visually impaired people.

Sir Bobby and Lady Norma have been aware of the charity’s work and are attending this event to show their support.

Alaina MacGregor, Chief Executive Officer of British Blind Sport said

“Since the 2012 Paralympic Games there has been a surge of interest in blind and partially sighted football.  As the leading charity for Visually Impaired sport, we will continue to build upon the success of the Games by encouraging as many young visually impaired people as possible to come along and have a go.

This is the place where many of our current Paralympians started and who knows, it’s very possible that the young people who participate in the tournament on the 18th, could be looking to Rio and beyond to represent their country.  We are delighted that Sir Bobby and Lady Norma Charlton and Tony Larkin recognise the significance of such events and it’s great to see they are lending their support to the charity and to the young people that attend.”
