Can Do Sport launches in Manchester

One hundred young disabled people will have the opportunity to take part in sport related activity thanks to Leonard Cheshire Disability’s Can Do Sport programme launching in Manchester. To celebrate this exciting new initiative, local MP Kate Green and Leonard Cheshire CEO Neil Heslop joined volunteers at the Chill Factore in Trafford on Friday (12 January 2018) as they were put through their paces by Disability Snow Sport UK.

The increased capacity and skills gained through this Can Do project will encourage participants to take-up further volunteering, training, and/or employment opportunities, depending on their age. The City & Guilds qualification that Can Doers will gain through this project will be an additional item to include on CV’s and further applications for training/employment/volunteering.

Neil Heslop, CEO Leonard Cheshire Disability said: “Today’s activity is indicative of the type of experience we’re trying to offer young disabled people through Can Do Sport, a programme that’s going to be rolling out across the country in the coming months.”

Young disabled individuals aged 10-20, as well as school/college/youth groups/disability sports groups or charities that work with groups of young people with additional needs, are encouraged to contact Can Do team for more information.
