GreaterSport's new campaign to reduce activity gap for disabled people

With disabled people twice as likely to be physically inactive than non-disabled people, GreaterSport is committed to improving inclusivity within Greater Manchester physical activity and sport provision. They have launched a new inclusion campaign for sports clubs across the region.

The new initiative encourages sports clubs to make a pledge to become more inclusive. The GM Inclusion Pledge Cards are designed to allow clubs to raise awareness of what their club can offer to the whole community, including disabled people. Even small acts can make it easier for disabled people to become more active.

GreaterSport hopes that by making a public pledge, clubs will commit to the changes and help improve inclusivity of sport and physical activity opportunities across Greater Manchester.

Example pledges include:

  • Ensuring there is an accessible parking bay at the clubhouse
  • Ensuring the clubhouse has a radar key for the accessible toilet
  • Ensuring all staff/volunteers have taken part in disability awareness training
  • Create a new inclusion programme within the club, such as setting up a disability team within the club
