Athletes set to go in the North West Typhoo regional athletics

On Sunday 29 April 2018 athletes from local clubs and schools across the North West are competing in the Typhoo Regional Athletics Championships at the Manchester Regional Arena. Many taking part hope to qualify for the Typhoo National Junior Championships in July.

National Junior Athletics Championships

Typhoo and Activity Alliance have teamed up for fourth year running to support young disabled athletes across England. Every year 1400 disabled athletes in total take part in this particular athletics programme.

Organised by local volunteers, the north west regional event will see around 150 athletes per region compete in a series of track and field events. Amongst them are Charlotte and Hannah – both have competed in this event two years in a row.

Charlotte said:

“I love competing in this event, especially the nationals at Warwick. It is amazing that so many people take part and everyone is so friendly. It’s definitely one of my highlights of the year.”

Hannah said:

“I enjoy competing with other pupils of similar abilities as it makes it fair but challenging. I also really enjoy the social aspect of the events and mixing with pupils from other schools and regions.”

This event is one of seven regional qualifiers that lead up to the Typhoo National Junior Athletics Championships climax on 7 and 8 July, in Warwick.

Barry Horne, Chief Executive for Activity Alliance, said:

“We are delighted to be working with Typhoo for a fourth year through our events programme. Year on year athletes and volunteers comment how much they value these events. It’s a pleasure to watch the athletes develop from regional to national champions. Typhoo’s support means we can ensure many more disabled people can reap the benefits of an active lifestyle.”
