Athletes set to go in the East Midlands Typhoo regional athletics

On Thursday 3 May 2018 athletes from local clubs and schools across the East Midlands are competing in the Typhoo Regional Athletics Championships at the Saffron Lane Stadium. Many taking part hope to qualify for the Typhoo National Junior Championships in July.

Typhoo and Activity Alliance have teamed up for fourth year running to support young disabled athletes across England. Every year 1400 disabled athletes in total take part in this particular athletics programme.

Organised by local volunteers, the East Midlands regional event will see around 150 athletes per region compete in a series of track and field events. Amongst them are Alec and Mason.

Alec said:

“I enjoying competing at the East Midlands regional athletics games because I feel equal on the track and field.”

Mason said:

“We all share the same respect and encourage each other, and this is one of many reasons I love competing at the East Midlands regional championships.”

This event is one of seven regional qualifiers that lead up to the Typhoo National Junior Athletics Championships climax on 7 and 8 July, in Warwick.

Barry Horne, Chief Executive for Activity Alliance, said:

“We are delighted to be working with Typhoo for a fourth year through our events programme. Year on year athletes and volunteers comment how much they value these events. It’s a pleasure to watch the athletes develop from regional to national champions. Typhoo’s support means we can ensure many more disabled people can reap the benefits of an active lifestyle.”
