Athletes set to go in the East Typhoo regional athletics

On Sunday 10 June 2018 athletes from local clubs and schools across the East of England are competing in the Typhoo Regional Athletics Championships at Chelmsford Stadium. Many taking part hope to qualify for the Typhoo National Junior Championships in July.

National Junior Athletics Championships

Typhoo and Activity Alliance have teamed up for fourth year running to support young disabled athletes across England. Every year 1400 disabled athletes in total take part in this particular athletics programme.

Organised by local volunteers, the East regional event will see around 150 athletes per region compete in a series of track and field events. Amongst them is Hannah, a young athlete from Orwell Panthers in Ipswich.

Hannah said:

“The regional athletics championships is a fun day out, I enjoy cheering the Orwell Panthers’ athletes when they are competing. It brings us all together as a team. The best thing is the amount of friends I have made at this competition.”

Barry Horne, Chief Executive for Activity Alliance, said:

“We are delighted to be working with Typhoo for a fourth year through our events programme. Year on year athletes and volunteers comment how much they value these events. It’s a pleasure to watch the athletes develop from regional to national champions. Typhoo’s support means we can ensure many more disabled people can reap the benefits of an active lifestyle.”
