Wembley grant for WheelPower to deliver London Primary Sports Camps

The Wembley National Stadium Trust (WNST) has awarded WheelPower £102,600 to deliver wheelchair sports activities for disabled children in London over the next three years.

WheelPower’s Primary Sports Camp, were one of the 11 disability sports projects supported by the WNST responding to the surge of interest by disabled people to play sport, generated by the London 2012 Games.

This first grants were announced and celebrated by charities at a reception at Wembley Stadium, attended by Paralympic champion Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson DBE.

Over the three years, the funding will allow up to six hundred 6-11 year old disabled children to discover sport. WheelPower have recently appointed Amy Henderson as Project Officer to deliver the London Primary Sports Camps which commence in 2014.

WheelPower is the national charity for wheelchair sport and provides sporting opportunities which transform the lives of disabled children and adults. Through sport many people whose lives have been traumatically changed can enjoy the tremendous physical and psychological benefits of participation and competitions. By focusing on something a disabled person can do, and potentially excel in, increased confidence results in a positive outlook which can influence other areas of their lives.
