Sport England disability funds open for applications

Sport England's disability funds opened to applications today. A total fund of £8m will be provided to help more disabled people play more sport.

The Inclusive Sport programme is designed to increase the number of disabled young people (aged 14+) and adults regularly playing sport as part of Sport England’s wider commitment to increasing regular sport participation by disabled people.

In the first round of Inclusive Sport 44 projects benefited from over £10 million of National Lottery investment. You can see the detail of these organisations here.

On 7 September 2013, a year on since the London 2012 Paralympic Games, Sport England announced a further £8 million of National Lottery funding aimed at giving disabled people across the country more opportunities to get into sport. This includes investment of £7 million through a second round of the Inclusive Sport fund and £1 million in Get Equipped, a new disability equipment fund.

Round two of Inclusive Sport is now open to applications and will remain so until 5pm on 2 December 2013.

Sport England hopes to hear from more organisations with great insight, consultation and concepts to open up sport to disabled people to help make sport a practical lifestyle choice for everyone.

The English Federation of Disability Sport (EFDS) has plenty of resources to help your application contain useful insight on disabled people. This includes our recent report on disabled people's lifestyles and their participation in physical activity. There is also our research archive, which holds a wealth of insight on various disabled people's market segments. Our online club toolkit is also free for providers to evaluate their inclusive practices and policies. The Inclusion Club Hub has been well received across grassroots sport.

If you are thinking of applying please visit Sport England's website and read the information within it. This includes the presentation shared at Sport England's nine successful Inclusive Sport workshops that were held across the country over late September and early October.
