National Safeguarding Adults Week is run by the National Safeguarding Adults Network, which is led by the Ann Craft Trust - a leading UK charity on safeguarding disabled children and adults at risk. The network includes members from a range of organisations across the UK that play a role in safeguarding adults at risk from harm and abuse.

Each day this week will focus on a different safeguarding risk and Ann Craft Trust will release new resources and information to help organisations provide the best possible support to adults at risk. On Saturday and Sunday (24-25 November) the focus will be sport and activity. Sports clubs and organisations can access guidance, training and resources on how to ensure their club and sport is safe for everyone to enjoy.

At Activity Alliance, our priority is to ensure that everyone can take part in opportunities that are inclusive, safe, enjoyable and protective. We promote the welfare of all children, young people and adults at risks and their rights to be protected from harm.

We have a proven track record of supporting a wide range of people, including leisure facilities, local and national organisations to included disabled people more effectively in sport and active recreation. As part of our commitment, Activity Alliance has developed comprehensive safeguarding policies, procedures and good practice guidance.

This enables all partners, stakeholders, staff and volunteers to understand their safeguarding roles and responsibilities. This includes what they should do if a safeguarding concern arises (directly or indirectly) and how any concerns will be managed in line with the law, and Local Safeguarding Adult Board (LSAB) requirements.

Visit our safeguarding page for more information.

Activity Alliance is also a part of the Safeguarding Adults Sports Strategic Partnership (SASSP), whose vision is to ensure that sport and recreation is an open, safe and inclusive environment for adults.

Deborah Kitson, Chief Executive of the Ann Craft Trust, said:

"We wanted to set up this week to highlight the issues affecting adults at risk. It is important that, not only professionals involved in the care and support of adults, but everyone is aware of the potential risks facing many adults.
"We also want to give organisations across the country involved in the care of adults at risk the opportunity to focus on the work they are doing. It is so important that we keep these issues at the forefront of people’s minds. Safeguarding adults is the responsibility of all organisations and we need to talk about it to make sure we are getting it right."

Sport England’s Club Matters programme has launched a new Safeguarding Adults podcast and online workshop to highlight this important topics to sports clubs. The podcast will discuss the crucial role clubs’ play in the support, identification and reporting of adults at risk.
