Chelsea FC join as new session providers with DS Active

November is proving to be a very busy month for the DSActive programme as they launch six new sessions, including a magnificent new partnership with Premiership Chelsea Football Club.

DSActive's aim is to provide children and young adults with Down’s syndrome (DS) a fair opportunity to get involved in sports. The emphasis is placed one of the nation’s favourite sports- football. The programme was formed in 2006 and has continued to grow ever since.

The fun started on Wednesday 6 November when they launched their first ever 18+ football session in partnership with QPR in the Community Trust. Their long running partnership with the club dates back to 2010 when they were the second football team to form. The additional 18+ session adds huge value to the programme and will allow more people with Down’s syndrome to access the high quality coaching provided by the QPR coaches. This session runs at the Westway Sports Centre, W10 6RP.

QPR football club have also added a tennis session to their existing three football sessions. This will be a three-way collaboration with DSActive, QPR in the Community Trust and the Tennis Foundation and was launched on Friday 8 November. It is held at the Westway Sports Centre, W10 6RP. For further information or to sign up to the sessions, please contact Conor McBrearty (Disability Projects Manager).

On the same day DSActive launched a tennis session in Milton Keynes. This session will be split into two separate sessions on different courts, one session for children with Down’s syndrome aged 5-17, the second for adults with Down’s syndrome aged 18+. It takes place between 5.30pm and 6.30pm at Woughton Leisure Centre, MK6 5EJ. For further information please contact Tom Wood

On Saturday 9 November, DSActive welcomed its newest football club to the programme- a fantastic session in partnership with Chelsea Football Club Foundation.

The newly formed Chelsea Community Lions will be running two sessions at the Matthew Arnold Sports Centre, Staines, TW18 1PF. The sessions are between 12.30pm and 1.30pm and again split into young people with Down’s syndrome aged 5-17 alongside a session bespoke for adults with Down’s syndrome aged 18+. For further information please contact Max Ashley

The sessions are open to anyone with Down’s syndrome. Join in the fun and promote them to any new members.
