Searching for board-ready candidates

Activity Alliance is delighted to be partnering with executive search firm, Perrett Laver. The programme is to identify and develop “board-ready” candidates for the sport sector.

Supporter talking to a disabled child

Run in conjunction with Sport England, the programme is a consortium of other partners. It will do the following:

  • Provide individuals with in-depth insights into the sport sector and its future challenges.
  • Ensure that a wider range of leaders feel confident bringing their skills to the board of a sport organisation.
  • Offer an online resources hub, training workshop/s, help creating an individual development plan and continuous support through the non-executive application process.

Experience of working in sport or in a non-executive role previously is not therefore essential. It’s your specialism and expertise that’s important, and your desire to make a difference in the sector.

Leadership should be as diverse as the people we serve in sport, but the number of disabled people involved at board level is not as high as it should be. Partners are committed to ensuring the board opportunities are welcoming to all under-represented groups. That is why we are all encouraging disabled people and people with long-term health conditions to apply.

As many sports bodies have charitable status, board positions are unlikely to be remunerated but travel expenses may be reimbursed.
