National charity offers free tandem hire for disabled people to enjoy cycling

A charity is offering tandem bike hire for free to disabled people so that they can enjoy cycling together with their friends and family. The Charlotte's Tandems offer is for disabled people of any age, who are unable to ride a bike safely on their own.

Tandems are a fun and safe way to get out and about as friends, a couple, family or group. They are available for hire for a couple of a months at a time.  They now have about sixty tandems and tag-alongs all over the UK and are looked after by the helpers listed on their website.

If you would like to borrow one then please contact them so you can be put in touch with the appropriate helper. Watch their video below.

They currently have 60 bikes and tag-alongs for hire across the UK. TV's Dr Dawn Harper said about the project:

"Charlotte's Tandems is such a wonderful idea. I have a disabled child myself, and know first hand how important it is to be able to get out and about as a family despite disability. This Charity could benefit thousands of families across the whole of the country, so I am thrilled to support Charlotte's Tandems and recommend that you all have a go at tandem riding. It's such great fun and best of all, with Charlotte's Tandems, it's free!"
