BBS announces virtual Live Workout Week for Heart of England region

British Blind Sport (BBS), the national disability charity for people with a visual impairment, are pleased to be bringing a virtual “Live Workout Week” to the Heart of England.

British Blind Sport’s host numerous physical “Have a Go” events every year across Britain, whereby people with visual impairments and their families can come along and try various sports and physical activities, in an attempt to highlight inclusive and accessible activities in their local areas.

With the current coronavirus pandemic making ‘on the ground sport’ events difficult and with restrictions having recently been strengthened across the UK once more, BBS has decided to host a virtual event – and this time, over a whole week!

The Heart of England Live Workout Week will utilise inclusive deliverers and sports organisations from the Heart of England region and encourage people to join them online for one workout per day. On offer, there will be rugby and tennis skills sessions and a boxercise class amongst other activities!

BBS will also be hosting one of their live Paralympian Podcast episodes during this exciting week of inclusive activity. The podcast will feature ex-Paralympic athlete Simon Butler; Simon’s main event was the 400m where he won number medals, including Paralympic Gold and Silver. Since his sporting career, Simon has worked in sport development helping to create more opportunities for people to participate in sport across the UK.

This live podcast episode will give participants the chance to tune in and ask any questions they have about the life of a professional athlete – and what comes afterwards!

The Heart of England Live Workout Week will showcase VI-inclusive activities in and around the central England area, giving participants a clear pathway to taking part in accessible activities once they can properly return to physical activity in community and group settings.

Participation Officer David said:

“I’m really looking forward to delivering this virtual event! The coronavirus pandemic has made us adapt the way we deliver events, as we still want to make sure people can stay active and get a sense of community even if they don’t feel comfortable attending physical events. Our live workout week will support residents in the Heart of England region to get active and meet other participants virtually, and also gives them a great idea of the inclusive opportunities that are available for them to join in with once physical activity can return to its normal status.”

Whilst this live workout week is predominately aimed at residents in the Heart of England area, BBS is encouraging people across Britain to join in to try some different physical activities.
