Exeter City FC Disability Counts team in prestigious FA competition
Exeter City Ability Counts FC are delighted that they have been accepted as one of only 16 entrants in the 2013-14 FA Disability Cup.
Their first-round match is at Exmouth Town FC - who donate their facilities to the team free of charge for home games – where they will take on Dexter Sports from Dorset on Sunday 23 February with a 1.30pm kick-off.
Currently in its second season as an FA pilot competition, the 2013-14 FA Disability Cup will see eight clubs from the North and eight clubs from the south play-off in a regional competition, with the two winners meeting in the final at St George’s Park on Saturday 7 June. This season’s new entrants include Leeds United, Derby County, Charlton Athletic Deaf and Twyford Spartans AC.
Exeter City ACFC welcomes disabled players and is one of the biggest disability football clubs in the UK. It has now been running for ten years, over which time several hundred players have taken advantage of training sessions and playing in competitive matches. Paul Clements, the team’s manager, said:
“It’s great news that this season will see Exeter City Ability Counts once again participate in the FA Disability Cup. The Ability Counts programme has been really successful and we look forward to competing in this national competition again. We did brilliantly in last season’s cup run, before losing to Plymouth in the regional semi-final and the squad for this year’s competition will be drawn from eligible players currently playing within the Devon Ability Counts leagues.”
