RGK and BWB re-sign contract and discuss revolutionary sports chair for Rio 2016

British Wheelchair Basketball (BWB) today announced that RGK wheelchairs have renewed their sponsorship agreement for the GB national teams. This embarks on an exciting time with the continued support and long term project to produce a revolutionary sports chair for use at the next Paralympics in Rio 2016. 

British Wheelchair Basketball CEO, Charlie Bethel, said:

“RGK are synonymous with wheelchair basketball and BWB are delighted to have agreed a new sponsorship deal with them.  We are looking forward to continuing what has so far been a successful partnership. Through RGK’s expertise, we hope the chairs will assist and enhance our player’s performance”

 Commercial director and co-owner of RGK, Russel Simms, said:

“I am really delighted to sign a new sponsorship contract with British Wheelchair Basketball, this will continue our support through the next Paralympic cycle, to Rio and beyond. We have been key sponsors of BWB for over 12 years, providing expertise, support and the highest performance wheelchairs for all the National Team programmes. On a personal note I have great pride in being able to support Great Britain, something as a brand we are committed to.”

To announce the signing, players and coaching staff from BWB got involved with the production of the bespoke wheelchairs, similar to what they use, giving a great perspective to the process.

British Wheelchair Basketball Performance Director, Paul Davies, said:

“We are very pleased to be continuing our long standing relationship with RGK. It is crucial to the sustained success of both the GB wheelchair basketball teams that we continue to innovate and bring new technology and ideas into the sport, to give GB the best chairs available and the advantage that brings. We know that RGK are the right wheelchair partner to do this with.”

Head of product development at RGK, Mike Sheen said:

“It is great honour to continue developing our products with the British Wheelchair basketball association. We have a great relationship and it was fun to show them round and let staff and athletes get involved in the design and build process. Our design team have the challenging objective of developing a new basketball chair for Rio 2016 which will hopefully be an integral part of the success of the teams at the games. Early developments look exciting so watch this space!”

Great Britain Women’s player, Maddie Thompson, said:

“It’s is fantastic news that RGK have renewed their sponsorship of both GB teams. To ensure we are able to perform at the highest level we must have world class chairs and having RGK’s support ensures that.”
