College Disability Festival at St Georges Park

Staffordshire FA held a College Disability Festival at St George’s Park on Wednesday 11 December 2013. The event, which took place in the Futsal Hall, where the England Futsal Team train, was attended by Stafford College, and, Burton and South Derbyshire College.

The event gave the opportunity to 15 players to play at the new home of English football, honing their skills under the guidance of Community Coach, Jamie Leaning, and College and Community Football Coordinator, Daniel Hickinbottom. The group practiced their Futsal skills in the hall followed by a Futsal Tournament amongst the players.

Rebecca  Condie, College Sport Maker for Burton and South Derbyshire College said of the festival:

“It is a fantastic opportunity for our students to experience this venue and receive some top level coaching, it demonstrates the inclusivity which football offers and I will be encouraging our students to join their local Charter Standard Club”.

Ed Hill, lecturer at Stafford College explained:

“We have a team which competes in the BCS Ability Counts league and today was an opportunity for those who may not usually get the chance to play in the competitive team. There are many other skills which are developed  through playing football such as communication, teamwork and confidence in addition to the physical literacy which is improved when playing. We encourage our learners to get involved at any level.”
