Captain Tom Moore united the nation and gave hope when it was needed most. After capturing the nation’s hearts, his family pledged to celebrate his life. They wanted to share his memory with an event that everyone in the UK and around the world could be involved in. The Captain Tom 100 was created, and Activity Alliance is proud to be getting involved.

Captain Tom’s words about hope and inclusion connect powerfully to our charity’s vision – fairness for disabled people in sport and activity. Now, we are calling on our supporters, new and old, to take part in the Captain Tom 100 and raise much-needed funds for Activity Alliance.

We are seeking 100 fundraisers to take inspiration from Captain Sir Tom Moore’s famous 100 laps around his garden. Are you up for the challenge?

As sporting activities reopen over the coming weeks, we want you to celebrate Captain Tom’s life and continue his legacy ‘your way’. Join Activity Alliance’s Team 100 to raise funds by doing 100 of absolutely anything!

Our story

The impact of the last year has been felt by the whole nation. Disabled people and people with long-term health conditions have been hit the hardest. There is no getting away from it. The statistics are frightening. Disabled people account for 6 in 10 of COVID-19 deaths from January to November 2020. The pandemic has not only widened many existing inequalities for disabled people, it has created new ones too.

Disabled people are the least active in our population – twice as likely to be inactive as non-disabled people. It is too early to know the full impact of COVID-19 on disabled people's activity levels, but current figures are extremely concerning. Before the pandemic, we were seeing glimmers of hope as disabled people’s activity levels were improving.

Findings in our most recent Annual Disability and Activity Survey show we face a real crisis in tackling disabled people’s fears and rebuilding confidence. As the leading voice for disabled people in sport and activity we are seriously concerned about the potential long-term damage on the nation’s least active.

Activity Alliance’s work continues to be impacted greatly by the pandemic. We have:

  • cancelled events for potential and established talented disabled people in sport.
  • paused participation programmes that engage the least active across the nation.
  • shared many stories from disabled people who feel socially isolated and less confident about being active again.

Want to be part of our Team 100? Here's how:

It’s so simple. All participants need to do is dream up a Captain Tom 100 challenge based around the number 100 and do it at any time and anywhere over Captain Tom’s birthday weekend – from Friday 30 April  to Monday 3 May (bank holiday).

We want you to do your 100, your way, how you want to, where you want to. Visit our events page for more 100 ideas and how to get started
