This comes after the government announcement and releasing of key planned dates for the easing of lockdown in England. Activity Alliance and Swim England have taken the decision to cancel the 2021 National Junior Para-Swimming Championships.

Martin Lees, Swim England, Para-Swimming Development Manager said:

“It is disappointing to cancel the National Junior Championships. This is the only competition where we can bring all the junior swimmers together and watch them apply their skills in the pool. Safety is essential and we need to make sure that we are making the right decisions to support coaches, athletes and parents. When pools re-open our priority will be to support clubs, coaches, athletes and parents to re-enter the training environment. We will work in partnership with Activity Alliance to identify a date for this important event in 2022.”

Barry Horne, Activity Alliance Chief Executive said:

"It is crucial new young talent is able to develop in every sport. The National Junior Para-Swimming Championships is an essential part of the para-swimming pathway but it also drives the wider benefits of being active for children and young people. We understand the important role such events can play in individual and athlete development. But as sport continues to reopen, returning safely for participants, volunteers and officials is our top priority. We are working closely in partnership with Swim England to make sure everyone can return to a safe and enjoyable competition environment, we are looking forward to planning the event for 2022.”
