North West Recovery Games bring community together
The North West Recovery Games recently brought together recovery communities from Morecambe, Kendal, Blackpool, and Colne for a day of connection, fun, and celebration.

Held at Blackpool Sports Centre, the event welcomed around 110 people who came to strengthen ties, share experiences, and build new friendships across the region.
The aim of the day was simple yet powerful, to show that recovery is stronger when communities come together. The event highlighted the importance of user-led initiatives and the positive impact of collaboration between groups.
A central focus was the partnership between Jobs, Friends and Houses (JFH) and Active Blackpool, showcasing how projects in the town are helping people rebuild their lives through employment, support, and community involvement.
April Oldfield, Active Communities Development Officer at Active Blackpool said:
"The day was a testament to the power of community, connection and inclusion. It was brilliant to see different recovery communities coming together for a day of fun and activity. This event showed that by working together, the recovery community is stronger than ever. It was amazing to witness the spirit of recovery in action."
Active Blackpool’s Get Out Get Active (GOGA) programme also played a key role, embedding weekly physical activity into the recovery community. By connecting with local groups like Jobs for Friends and Housed (JFH), GOGA helps make initiatives like the Recovery Games possible, ensuring activities are inclusive and accessible.
The day itself was filled with energy and variety. The morning offered something for everyone, from boccia and badminton to table tennis, archery, crafts, and even a giant inflatable. In the afternoon, participants came together for a lively rounders tournament, reinforcing the theme of teamwork and friendship.
