‘Girls of Brum’ give sport and activity a go
Partnerships Advisor Ali offered her expertise as part of the planning team for the event that welcomed almost 400 girls.

Girls from 35 schools across Birmingham tried out a wide range of activities and wellbeing workshops at the ‘Girls of Brum’ event this week. Many of those who attended would not normally engage with physical activity.
Community activity providers from across Birmingham brought their expertise and energy to the day at Alexander Stadium.
Activity Alliance Partnerships Advisor Ali Evans spent the past few months as part of the planning group ahead of the major event. She was part of the all-female project team to add guidance on how to make the event inclusive for disabled and non-disabled girls across the city with local, regional, and national partners.
She worked alongside partners from Sport Birmingham, The Active Wellbeing Society, Street Games UK and Spark Active. Ali said:
"It was great to see inclusion considered through all elements of the event. From the make up of the project planning group, to the communications sent to schools, volunteer training, to how the venue would look and feel for all involved, and the activities available on the day; inclusion and building a community for the girls was always at the heart of decision making.
"I look forward to seeing how the legacy of this event unfolds over the coming months and seeing the change to how we plan and work in partnerships with inclusion at the heart."
It is hoped that the day will act as a starting point for many of those who attended, supported by the fantastic organisations who were there on the day.
