  • Laila Issa

    Communications Advisor

    Laila joined the team in November 2017 and brought with her four years' agency experience. She brings extensive experience in PR, journalism and video production. Her role varies from creating content for a mix of channels, media and stakeholder relations to managing our exciting campaigns. She is our in-house videographer too. Laila’s passion for communications stems from her desire to make a real difference. Her desire is to break down barriers and ensure everyone feels included. Having trained in Muay Thai Kickboxing, and a number of running events, she absolutely loves that she’s now using inclusive communications to get more people active. All that activity is needed as Laila is a self-claimed 'massive foodie', bringing homecooked goods to work. She loves time with her friends and family.

  • Stacey Johnson

    Communications Advisor

    Stacey is a Communications Advisor at Activity Alliance and her main focus is to showcase the impact of our activity and training programmes. She previously worked for Age UK Bolton in a similar role. With a degree in film production she is always looking for creative ways to capture programme success and impact. She is passionate about storytelling and sharing disabled people's experiences to help break down barriers to inclusion.

  • Adam Lever

    Inclusive Activity Programmes Officer

    Adam works on both Sport England’s Inclusive Activity Programme and the Sainsbury’s Inclusive PE Programme. Personal experiences sparked his passion for inclusive sport, when he had to adapt the way he played. Adam hopes his work will have impact on how many opportunities there are in the future for disabled people and people with long-term health conditions. He wants to ensure everyone can experience the many benefits being active can offer. Away from work, Adam keeps active at the gym and playing golf. He also plays sitting volleyball for Loughborough Fusion. But he enjoys nothing better than sitting in a coffee shop, drinking a flat white too!

  • Joan Massie

    Finance and Administration Executive

    Joan works in the Corporate Services team and provides administrative support to all staff. A proud Boltonian, she can now be found in the East Midlands in our Loughborough office. Joan enjoys the friendly office environment and day-to-day contact with the team. Her organising skills are put to good use at our events too, including at the national swimming and athletics championships. She likes to be part of the big family that comes together to put on these major events - staff and volunteers. Joan has a wealth of experience in administration across various sectors, dedicating her time to education when her children were small. She understands the impact of inclusion, once working in a school supporting disabled children. Joan was also a school governor at her son’s specialist school for 12 years. A keen runner, reader, Joan also likes to listen to music and travel abroad when she gets the opportunity.

  • Jayant Mistry

    Impact and Learning Advisor

    Jayant supports our engagement and programmes teams to embed better practices in their work. This could be through improvement plans or effective monitoring. Among his many sporting achievements, Jayant is a four-times Paralympic wheelchair tennis player and twice inaugural grand slam doubles champion. He was the Wheelchair Tennis Sport Manager at the London 2012 Games and part of the wheelchair tennis coaching team at the Rio 2016 Paralympics. Jayant believes we can create a more open and inclusive society by increasing people’s confidence and competence. He was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Loughborough University and is an avid Leicester City fan.

  • Helen Newberry

    Get Out Get Active Workforce Lead

    Helen is part of our programme's team, working on Get Out Get Active, having been the Engagement Advisor for the South West. Working with a wide range of partners, she is at the heart of developing and implementing workforce plans for the programme. A keen athlete, Helen can be found taking part in many running events. She is also a fabulous baker!

  • Courtney Perks

    Senior Communications Advisor

    Sport is ingrained in Courtney's DNA. She joined the team in November 2014, following communication roles at two National Governing Bodies of sport. She brings a passion for marketing strategy to the table and is always on the look out for new opportunities to promote the charity's important work. Never one to sit still, she regularly cycles to work and laces up her running trainers. One of her proudest moments is completing the Liverpool Half Marathon in 2018. Away from sport, she loves listening to music in the kitchen while cooking or baking. Later with Jools Holland is a TV favourite.

  • Catherine Slater

    Engagement Advisor (East Midlands and Yorkshire)

    Catherine supports our engagement work, including with the Active Partnerships. Building relationships at a local level, Catherine is on hand to bring people together and advise on better practice. She enjoys that her role enables her to connect with so many passionate people. Seeing organisations grow in their learning and improve as a result makes her tick. She believes strongly that disabled people deserve more choices in sport and leisure and wants to see greater representation in the workforce. Catherine loves nothing more than being outdoors, walking her boxer dog. If she’s not walking in the countryside, she’s indoors, taking part in an online class or perhaps spinning. In her downtime, you can find Catherine relaxing with an 80s classic film.

  • Kat Southwell

    Head of Programmes

    Kat oversees all Activity Alliance programmes and has specific responsibility for the management of our Get Out Get Active programme. She’s worked for the charity since 2009 and continues to enjoy the challenges and opportunities that each day brings. She loves being a programme manager because she gets to see an idea through to its implementation and understand its impact. Kat is also a secret spreadsheet fanatic! Her personal goal is to impact the way that people and organisations think. So everyone has an inclusive approach at the very heart of what they do. Outside of work Kat plays rugby for Bath and has started to enjoy trail running. She also likes to bake and eat tasty treats!

  • Agata Sromecka

    Executive Assistant and HR Lead

    Agata provides administrative support to the Executive team and works closely with the Board, members and staff. She also oversees human resources for Activity Alliance. In her dual role, Agata's drive is to enable the team to manage their day-to-day busy schedules in the most effective way possible. She is passionate about seeing us flourish as a diverse and inclusive employer. Building an employee-friendly organisation is important to her. Agata is a keen outdoor runner and loves amateur weightlifting as part of her fitness routine. She also loves cooking and baking.

    Active Kids for All Project Manager

    Chloe manages the development and delivery of the Sainsbury’s Active Kids for All Inclusive PE and Inclusive Community training across the four home nations in liaison with project partners and Sainsbury’s.

  • Jannine Walker

    National Events Manager

    Jannine manages our events programme and is at the heart of delivering inclusive sporting opportunities for disabled people at all levels. She has been in events management for two decades. At one with her clipboard and timelines, she supports our in-house events, functions and conferences to run smoothly and accessibly. When not running herself, Jannine can be found near a cricket or football pitch, supporting her two sons' active schedules.
