Volunteer training kicks off ahead of Nottingham 2015 CPISRA World Games

With three months to go until the start of the Nottingham 2015 CPISRA World Games, the Games Starter Volunteer Programme took place on the weekend.

Volunteers from across the country came together in Nottingham and were joined by Paralympic athletes Dan West, Sam Ruddock, Fran Williamson and Leon Taylor.

Hosted by Nottingham Trent University at the Sir Harry and Lady Djanogly Lecture Theatre, the Games Starters will get their core training under way for the international sporting event to be held in August. The Games Starter Volunteer Training Programme is sponsored by Carillion Plc.

Games Starter Volunteer Manager John Selby-Sly said:

'This training session is an introduction to the Games for all of our volunteers, where they will get to grips with some of the key issues regarding organisation and safeguarding of the athletes taking part.
'But it will also be an opportunity to get to know each other as a team of volunteers, see what they might be doing and who they will be working with.'

The volunteers also met with Paralympic athletes Dan West, Sam Ruddock, Fran Williamson and Leon Taylor in a session where they found out about what it means to take part in an international event. The event was also supported by former Olympian David Moorcroft from Join In.

Ali Talbot, Chief Executive of Cerebral Palsy Sport said:

'Our Games Starter Volunteers are vital to making the Nottingham 2015 World Games a success, we simply couldn’t do it without them. It’s great to see so many of them in one place for the first time and we hope they go away enthusiastic and excited about the Games and looking forward to August.'

Natalie Broom, Sport Volunteer Coordinator at Nottingham Trent University and member of the Games Starter Steering Group, said:

'This weekend we have welcomed all of our volunteers to the Games Starter Family and showed them just what the games are all about. It’s a fantastic opportunity to showcase one of the host venues here at Nottingham Trent University and I’m very proud to be working on behalf of the university as an integral partner of the games to deliver the Games Starter training programme.'

The Nottingham 2015 CPISRA World Games Volunteering Programme is being delivered in partnership with Championing Notts Sports Volunteering, Nottingham Trent University and Lions Clubs International, Multiple District 105 British Isles and Ireland and Nottingham Trent University Students Union.
