Participants enjoy sporting action at 8th annual LimbPower Games

Over 60 participants attended the 8th annual LimbPower Games at Stoke Mandeville Stadium on Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 May. This fantastic event was the Charity's best yet, introducing amputees and people with limb impairments to a range of sports and activities.

Organised by LimbPower, the Games are the Charity’s flagship sports event for amputees and people with limb impairments, offering people the opportunity to take part and compete is a range of sporting activities.

Held at Stoke Mandeville Stadium, the birthplace of the Paralympic movement, the event brings together people from around the UK and Ireland for a festival of sport. With competitive events and have-a-go sessions in 12 sports across two days, there were plenty of activities for people to enjoy.

This year’s event has been a special highlight for LimbPower, as it’s the first Games to take place since LimbPower achieved National Disability Sports Organisation status in August 2014. Generous financial support from Blatchfords, Boost, Stewart’s Law and fundraising contributions have ensured the 8th annual LimbPower Games have been the best yet.

For some participants the Games is one of the first opportunities they have to try out new sports and activities. Sports on offer at the Games this year were: Athletics (track & field), cycling, hand cycling, archery, table tennis, tennis, badminton, swimming, shooting, powerlifting, basketball, canoeing, rowing, sitting volleyball, football and wheelchair dance.

Participant, Kelly Jackson said:

'I accomplished things I never thought I could, the support and camaraderie between other amputees, really pushes you. It gave me the confidence to run, which I didn't think I could, and to cycle one legged! I've left the event feeling massively proud of myself, and it's given me the drive to carry on and keep pushing myself.'


The Games play an important role in supporting many amputees to gain confidence, improve mobility and find a sport or activity they really enjoy.

‘It’s been great to see so many new faces at the Games this year, fully embracing the opportunity to have a go at sport. The Games are a fantastic example of how sport and physical activity can have a positive impact on the lives of amputees and people with limb impairments. Many return home full of confidence, having discovered a love of being active and go on to continue playing sport in their local area.’


The 8th Annual LimbPower Games support the on-going work LimbPower does to increase the number of sporting opportunities available for amputees and those living with limb loss in the UK.
