England Boxing launches Disability Development Plan
This week, England Boxing launches its Disability Development Plan, which is supported by Sport England and the English Federation of Disability Sport. It sets out plans to help clubs and encourage more disabled participants to take part in boxing.
The National Governing Body for the sport wants to provide more opportunities for both individuals and clubs. It is important to them that disabled people are able to enjoy boxing in the same way as any non-disabled person, and that they have opportunities to achieve in the sport.
Many clubs throughout England have been doing outstanding work to ensure that the experiences they offer are fully inclusive. England Boxing knows that clubs would like to be more inclusive but don’t know where to start, or would like some support so they can feel confident in the work they are doing.
The timeline
Spring 2015
- England Boxing launched its Disability Development Plan on 26 May 2015. This document sets out England Boxing’s strategic vision to make boxing more accessible to disabled people, and explains how it aims to improve the boxing offer in order to increase disability participation.
- They will share best practice, good news and case studies from clubs and athletes working with disabled participants.
- Each club will be provided with a case study of a successful inclusion project which has taken place in Hampshire recently. Clubs will be able to discuss the challenges they face in becoming more inclusive, or share their own inclusion work with their local club support officer.
- England Boxing will encourage clubs to use the Inclusion Club Hub - a tool created by the English Federation of Disability Sport to help clubs to include more disabled people in their activities. The tool can be used in a variety of ways within your club and also contains handy resources you can download.
Autumn 2015
England Boxing will be hosting regional workshops to support coaches to become more inclusive.
