British Blind Sport celebrates 40th anniversary with Festival of VI Sport

British Blind Sport gets ready to host exciting new event to celebrate 40 years of supporting visually impaired (VI) people through sport.


On Saturday 11 July, British Blind Sport (BBS) will host a fun, new sports participation event in Coventry. The Festival of VI Sport is a free event for blind and partially sighted people of all ages and abilities. Showcasing many different sports and activities, the event is a great opportunity for visually impaired people to take part in a sport or activity they enjoy.

British Blind Sport welcomes visually impaired people of all ages from around the country to come together in a celebration of VI sport. Friends and family are also encouraged to attend and join in the celebrations and activities.

British Blind Sport, Chief Executive Alaina MacGregor said:

‘We are excited to be able to showcase the wonderful work of our charity at the forthcoming Festival of VI Sport which celebrates our 40th Anniversary.  There will be plenty of opportunities for visually impaired people to try out a whole range of sports on the day.'

Alaina continues:

'Our aim is to make a visible difference through sport for those children and adults living with sight loss. This event will provide a great platform for people to have a fun day out, learn about what sports are available in their local area and hopefully find a sport that they can enjpy for the rest of their lives.'


The BBS Festival of VI Sport will be held at the King Henry VIII School in Coventry and is being generously supported by The Rotary Club of Coventry Phoenix. Sports confirmed for the Festival so far include: athletics, cricket, cycling, football, golf and swimming. British Blind Sport is working with top sports organisations such as England Athletics, England Golf, Wheels For All, Cycling Projects and The FA to deliver fun, enjoyable sessions throughout the day with qualified and experienced coaches.  

A new event to the sporting calendar this summer, the festival marks an important milestone for the charity. British Blind Sport is celebrating 40 years of helping blind and partially sighted people get active and play sport. Founded in 1975, the charity prides itself on ‘making a visible difference through sport’ – breaking down barriers to participation and encouraging more visually impaired children and adults to take part in sport and physical activity. The BBS Festival of VI Sport is one of a series of great events taking place in 2015 to celebrate the charity’s 40th anniversary.

  • Saturday 11 July
  • King Henry VIII School Sports Centre, Warwick Road, Coventry, CV3 6AQ
  • Activities and sport sessions will take place from 12.00pm - 4.00pm
