Join in the Xplorer Active Summer Fun

Xplorer a fun, active family challenge, is set to be a major feature of Love Parks Week starting on Friday 24 July. As part of the celebrations, there will be hundreds of events and activities throughout the week (24 July – 2 August) and Xplorer is one of the many activities.

Explore the Park, find the markers, complete the challenge, have fun together and enjoy being part of Love Parks Week. It's the annual celebration of our countries’ fantastic green spaces and the community groups that bring them to life.

Earlier this year British Orienteering announced a special offer for Friends of Parks groups in preparation for Love Parks week. The offer provided everything the groups needed to get Xplorer happening in their local park.

Over 30 groups responded to the offer meaning that the project funded by Sport England will see Xplorer events taking place during Love Parks Week and throughout the school holidays.

A series of Xplorer events will be taking place this summer across England and families are invited to come and have fun exploring the park.

What is Xplorer?

Xplorer is a fun family challenge aimed at primary and pre-school children and their parents, grandparents and guardians. It is an outdoor navigational challenge for the whole family to enjoy and involves a healthy mix of physical activity and decision making.

Using a simple map of the park the aim is to find the points marked on the map and write down the name of the secret animal or colour you find on the marker.

No experience of map reading is necessary, and Xplorer is perfect for children as they can run around in a safe and friendly environment and will have a great adventure searching for the secret markers.

Natalie Shaw from Xplorer said:

“The Xplorer events will provide a fantastic opportunity to get the whole family up and active, introduce map reading and decision making skills and most importantly not have to go far to have lots of fun with their families in the local parks!”
