Bristol Street Versa celebrates the pioneers of sport for disabled people

Motor retailer Bristol Street Versa has released a new infographic, which takes a broad look at the history of disability sport. The “Pioneers of Disability Sport” infographic aims to provide an insight into the foundation of well-known events like the Paralympics. However, it also shows other impairment specific pathways in sport as well as organisations that many may be less familiar with.

As a provider of Motability vehicles and equipment for drivers with a range of impairments, Versa wanted to produce something that some customers would relate to. However, the infographic is also aimed to be a good introduction to anyone wanting to know a little more about the history of disability sport.

Through the achievements of campaigners and athletes, Bristol Street Versa has pinpointed just a few of the key figures involved in the development of sports for disabled people.

A spokesperson for the company said:

"When creating the infographic, Versa was mindful of an increased general awareness of disability sport and disabled athletes in Britain following the 2012 Paralympics. However, whilst many in the UK and beyond may now be familiar with contemporary Paralympics and Paralympians, Versa wanted to take a look at a broader history.

The infographic also aims to make readers aware of the range of organisations involved in sport for disabled people, such as the International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports Federation, and the International Blind Sports Federation. In doing so, Versa wanted to show that major sports events for disabled people don’t simply happen every four years, and that other major and sometimes more specific events take place."
