Sainsbury's Inclusive Community Training is 'fun, informal, a great way to share ideas'

Sainsbury’s Inclusive Community Training, part of the Active Kids for All scheme, is a creative, informal and informative workshop. It is designed to improve the skills and confidence of those who support disabled people to be more active.

One workshop which recently took place was organised by West Yorkshire Sport and attended by individuals from a variety of backgrounds.

Attendees enjoyed the three hours of practical training, supplemented by online resources.

Andrew Lane, Development Officer for West Yorkshire Sport, told the English Federation of Disability Sport (EFDS):

“The session went very well with participants from a range of backgrounds all contributing their experiences and ideas.

“Highlights included developing variations of traditional games and activities by adapting the type of equipment and movements used to ensure individuals of all abilities are included and challenged.”

Described as "a very good course, with great tutors and well-prepared" by past participants, Sainsbury’s Inclusive Community Training recently passed a significant milestone with over 2,200 individuals having benefited from the initiative.

Feedback from the attendees of the recent workshop included:

“It was a fun workshop with lots of practical ideas that will be easy to put into practice and share. The tutor made things really easy to understand and apply!”

“I would definitely recommend this training. The session was fun, the tutor friendly and everyone was able to share their experiences and opinions.”

West Yorkshire Sport praised the Sainsbury’s Inclusive Community Training as highly effective, with Andrew Lane adding:

“The workshop has proved effective in engaging parents, volunteers and those from disabled people’s organisations who are keen, but aren’t confident in how to include sport and physical activity within their sessions.

“We would highly recommend the Sainsbury’s Inclusive Community Training as it is fun, informal and a great way to give learners the opportunity to share their ideas and experiences in a practical environment.”
