Dwarf Sports Association UK members hit the target

Members of the Dwarf Sports Association UK (DSAuk) hit the target in recent project to increase the number of people with restricted growth taking part in target shooting.

Congratulations to DSAuk members Arther Dean, Simon Mount, Rebecca Nuttall, Matt York and Nigel Burton recently undertook and successfully passed the National Smallbore Rifle Association YPS Instructors course at Aldersley Shooting Centre.

The instructor course has equipped the group with the required legal, safety and equipment knowledge to run taster sessions on behalf of DSAuk for air rifle and air pistol target shooting.

After the success of the first course, it is anticipated that a second instructor course will be run for DSAuk members in spring/summer 2016. To further increase the number of instructors within DSAuk membership and enable them to provide more target shooting participation opportunities.

Target shooting is a sport that can be enjoyed by everyone at all levels from beginners to those who are keen to test their skills in competition against other shooters.

In recent years DSAuk has seen participation numbers for the shooting competition at their annual National Games increase. This rise in interest has led DSAuk to look into ways they could provide more target shooting opportunities for their members.

Also in 2013 the GB team enjoyed great success in the air pistol shooting competition at the World Dwarf Games, winning a total of two gold, two silver and one bronze medal.

DSAuk has already scheduled a number of shooting training sessions for the coming months at Aldersley Shooting Centre in the West Midlands. A number of DSAuk regional networks are also looking to running target shooting taster sessions next year for people new to the sport.

Keep an eye on the DSAuk website and Facebook page for more details about upcoming target shooting sessions.

Dwarf Sports Association UK aims to make regular sporting opportunities accessible and enjoyable to anyone with restricted growth.
