New funding programme for disabled coaches in West Yorkshire

Yorkshire Sport Foundation has launched a new initiative designed to increase the number of disabled people coaching within West Yorkshire.

The Creating Connections Recruit into Coaching programme will support the recruitment and development of disabled volunteer coaches who will play an active role within their club or organisation in West Yorkshire.

Successful applicants will receive funding of up to £200 to gain a coaching qualification in a sport of their choice, before completing 15 voluntary hours of coaching in their club or organisation.

Creating Connections is a Yorkshire Sport Foundation project that offers a sport and physical activity pathway for disabled people across West Yorkshire and, more recently, into parts of South Yorkshire. A collaborative approach utilises the expertise of healthcare professionals, service users, clubs and activity providers.

The aim is to support people to get involved in community sport and physical activities, and to support community clubs and providers to welcome more disabled people to their sessions.

Yorkshire Sport Foundation is the organisation responsible for South Yorkshire Sport and West Yorkshire Sport, two of the 45 County Sport Partnerships with responsibility for connecting and influencing providers of sport and physical activity to increase the number and quality of opportunities for participation across the Counties.

More information and the person specification can be viewed on the Yorkshire Sport Foundation website.
