Active communications conference: Limited places go on sale

Imagine how many more people we could get active if our communications were easier to access and understand.

  • Active communications: A one-day conference on accessible communications in sport and physical activity
  • Monday 11 April 2016
  • Manchester Macdonald Hotel, London Road, Manchester M1 2PG

We live and work in a climate of fast-moving messages through a multitude of channels. Some of the time and money we spend on those messages is lost. Perhaps the information is not in the right format and colour, or the wording is too hard to understand. As a result, we are missing so many participants.

With 9.4 million disabled people in England – many of your potential participants are disabled people. Research shows that inaccessible communications can be a barrier to participation. Disabled people also say that not being aware of opportunities prevents them from taking part. Inclusive and accessible communications can help everyone in sport and physical activity reach more people.

More conference information

The English Federation of Disability Sport (EFDS) promotes and supports inclusive marketing and communications. To support providers, we are delivering this one-day conference.

Aimed at marketing and communications professionals in sport and fitness, at the conference you will learn how to adapt your communication activity, meet key experts in the field and hear examples of better practice.

In the morning session, keynote speakers will share their areas of expertise. Speakers at the time of publication include Sport England, Abilitynet, Plain English Campaign and Big Voice Communications.

The afternoon will be as informative and interactive as possible. We will assign small groups, who will move around table discussions on essential communications topics. Delegates will access useful tips within the time block and take home a wealth of information, so you can embed the principles in your own work.
