Active communications conference: Early bird rate ends Friday

Supported by Sport England, for those who work in sport and fitness, the English Federation of Disability Sport (EFDS) is delivering an exciting one-day conference. The Active Communications Conference allows providers to learn more about getting more people active through accessible communications. Sport England, BBC Digital, Abilitynet and the Plain English Campaign are among keynote speakers. All will address delegates on the importance of understanding your audiences, channels and messages.

EFDS promotes and supports inclusive marketing and communications. As well as the successful Guide and film, EFDS has delivered a range of workshops to National Governing Bodies, County Sports Partnerships and other providers. This conference adds to this positive work within sport and fitness, giving delegate an ideal opportunity to talk to experts in the field.

Aimed at marketing and communications professionals, at the conference you will learn how to adapt your communication activity and hear examples of better practice.

Following the morning keynote session, the afternoon will be as informative and interactive as possible. We will assign small groups, who will move around table discussions on essential communications topics. Delegates will access useful tips within the time block and take home a wealth of information, so you can embed the principles in your own work!

Imagine how many more people we could get active if our communications were easier to access and understand.

We live and work in a climate of fast-moving messages through a multitude of channels. Some of the time and money we spend on those messages is lost. Perhaps the information is not in the right format and colour, or the wording is too hard to understand. As a result, we are missing so many participants.

With 9.4 million disabled people in England – many of your potential participants are disabled people. Research shows that inaccessible communications can be a barrier to participation. Disabled people also say that not being aware of opportunities prevents them from taking part. Inclusive and accessible communications can help everyone in sport and physical activity reach more people.
