ASA recruiting for 2014 Youth Forum

The ASA is looking for proactive young leaders between 16 and 25 years old to join the National Youth Forum. The Youth Forum support the ASA in encouraging young volunteers to become actively involved in all aspects of aquatic sport.

What does the Youth Forum do?

Click here to find out more about the ASA Youth Forum.The Youth Forum, led by the Youth Forum Chair (Alex Harrison) and supported by the ASA Volunteer Co-ordinator, aims to create a network of young people within aquatics. The group meet four times a year; meetings are led by the Youth Forum Chair, Vice Chair and Secretary with support from ASA staff.

The group are consulted on issues that impact young people and provide a youth perspective on specific departmental programmes. Youth Forum members are provided with the necessary training and support to effectively fulfil their role.

What will the role offer you as a young leader?

Becoming a member of the ASA Youth Forum will provide you with unique opportunities to support the development of ASA programmes, projects and initiatives and in your own personal development as a young leader. The below outlines just some of the opportunities Youth Forum members will benefit from:

  • Involvement in a number of differing ASA programmes and initiatives, at every stage of project development.
  • Greater knowledge and understanding of how a national governing body of sport operates.
  • Ability to voice the opinions of young people and represent peers on a national level.
  • Spport and guidance from ASA staff.
  • Improve communication, organisation, project management and presentation skills.
  • Work with our external partners and make key contacts.
  • Improve confidence in a professional environment.

How do I become a member?

If becoming a member of the National Youth Forum has grabbed your interest, we are looking for between three and seven new members this year, including the recruitment of a Vice Chair.

If you are enthusiastic, dedicated to volunteering and passionate about sport then the Youth Forum could be the place for you! This is a unique opportunity for volunteers to work alongside the ASA and current Youth Forum to understand and influence how young people are supported.

Youth Forum members will have the opportunity to develop their skills and their CVs with the support of the ASA Volunteer Engagement Team, and will be involved in decision making processes which will directly influence ASA programmes and initiatives.

Terms and Conditions

The deadline for applications is Monday 9 December 2013. Candidates will be informed as to whether or not they have been successful by Monday 16 December 2013.

The first Youth Forum meeting will take place 12:30 – 17:30 on Sunday 19 January 2014 in Loughborough at the ASA Head Office. All meetings will take place on weekend dates, the majority will be Sundays.

As a Youth Forum member you will be representing the interests of young people and acting as an ambassador for aquatics. Applicants do not have to be from a competitive sporting background, but should be involved in aquatics in some way.
