WheelPower announce more opportunities for disabled people to play sport
WheelPower, the national charity for wheelchair sport, has released more information on their upcoming events. The opportunities, which run in October and November, are aimed at 6-30 year olds and based at Stoke Mandeville Stadium in Aylesbury.
Over the coming months, WheelPower is organising a fantastic series of opportunities for disabled people. Participants can choose a level right for them to have a go, improve and find the sport that may transform their life. The events being held at the birthplace of the Paralympic movement are:
Event: In2 Sports Camp
The Sports Camp provides the opportunity to receive coaching and have a go at a number of Sports.
Date: 9 and 10 November
Age range: 18 to 30 year olds
Impairment group: Those with a physical impairment such as spinal cord injury, spinia bifida, cerebral palsy and muscular dystrophy.

Event: Junior Sports Camp supported by the Kidz in Sport Trust
The Sports Camp provides the opportunity to receive coaching and have a go at a number of Sports.
Date: 23 and 24 November
Age range: 11 to 18 year olds
Impairment group: Those with a physical impairment such as spinal cord injury, spinia bifida, cerebral palsy and muscular dystrophy.

Event: Primary Sports Camp
The Sports Camp is a great way to introduce disabled children to a wide variety of sports in a safe, friendly and completely inclusive environment.
Date: Saturday 22 March
Age range: 6 to 11 year olds
Impairment group: Those with a physical (such as spinal cord injury, spina bifida, cerebral palsy and muscular dystrophy) or mild sensory impairment.

WheelPower’s sports events have been the start of successful sporting careers for many Paralympians. They include London 2012 superstar David Weir CBE.
Harriet Little, a member of the Archery GB’s development squad has been a regular participant at WheelPower events. She said about the opportunities:
“They have enabled me to make friends and to understand that I am not alone with my disability. It has also taught me that sport is there for everyone."
The charity provides opportunities, facilities and equipment enabling disabled people to play sport and be inspired to lead active healthy lives. Martin McElhatton, Chief Executive for WheelPower explains:
“Our events are a fantastic opportunity to have a go and discover many of the sports that are available. Sport and physical activity provide tremendous benefits ranging from improving health to the opportunity to meet new people.”
