England Athletics: Breaking barriers and opening doors

England Athletics is supporting the theme of International Day of Disabled People by encouraging everyone involved in athletics to take action. A major focus of the day is practical and concrete action to include disability in all aspects of development, as well as to further the participation of disabled people in social life and development on the basis of equality. Highlight progress and obstacles in implementing disability-sensitive policies, as well as promote public awareness to break barriers and open doors: for an inclusive society for all.

To do this England Athletics is encouraging clubs and running groups to adopt an inclusive approach to better attract and support disabled people into all areas of athletics. And to support you to do this they have recently released an updated Inclusive Club Health Check to help identify areas for development and where support is available to be more inclusive.

All clubs and groups are firstly encouraged to make sure they have an inclusion policy in place to support the integration of inclusive practice into core club/group programmes and activities.

For more information for clubs and leaders/coaches on disability and inclusion click here to visit their disability web pages or contact your local Club and Coach Support Officer.
