SCIFIT gains IFI accreditation on the new StepOne™ Recumbent Stepper

SCIFIT Ltd (UK) has added the StepOne Recumbent Stepper to their IFI accredited models. This new stepper delivers a low impact exercise solution for all users, regardless of age or level of function. It offers an enjoyable and effective total-body workout that ensures the back; hip and knee joints are not unduly stressed, whilst delivering a safe workout to improve cardio-vascular health.

The StepOne applications are ideally suited for people requiring special needs, cardiac rehabilitation, physiotherapy, sports injury rehabilitation and general cardio fitness. The ever-growing active ageing population will also reap the benefits of this new IFI model. With its removable seat, it becomes an effective upper body exerciser for wheelchair users.

StepOne pedals always return to a neutral starting position to ensure easy step-through access and the adjustable arm and leg stride lengths ensure it aligns correctly with the user’s height and mobility limitations. As with all SCIFIT machines, the StepOne has a low starting resistance at just 6 watts of power and it comes with 200 resistance levels adjustable in 0.1 increments. The sturdy, orthopedic footbeds have safety edges, heel cups and footstraps and the 1:1 arm to leg ratio promotes natural movement that is a similar foot pattern to walking or climbing stairs.

The SCIFIT Recumbent Stepper IFI model joins their PRO1 Upper Body Exerciser, PRO2 Total Body Exerciser, ISO7000R Recumbent Bike and AC5000 Treadmill as the fifth IFI accredited model in the SCIFIT specialist cardiovascular equipment range.

One of the many facilities around the UK with SCIFIT IFI accredited models is The Point 4 Sports Centre, Gym and Spa located within The Royal National College for the Blind in Hereford. This facility is IFI-accredited and has a strong connection with disability sport with several Team GB Paralympic Athletes training at the facility.

One such athlete is the inspirational London 2012 Paralympic Gold Medalist Josie Pearson MBE. Josie uses the SCIFIT PRO1 Upper Body Exerciser as an integral part of her upper body training, both at Home and The Point4 gym.

Josie commented:

Working out on the SCIFIT PRO1 IFI Upper Body Exercise helped me gain core strength, upper body strength and cardiovascular fitness and it has been a key part of my training programme. It’s so easy to use in my wheelchair and I can easily track my performance improvement with the feedback you get on the console display.

Josie continued to use the SCIFIT PRO1 Upper Body Exerciser, as a key part of her fitness training and in July 2013 she won gold at the IPC Athletics World Championships in Lyon. Josie threw a distance of 7.09m, beating her own world record and securing the gold medal. She continues to train on the PRO1 and is looking forward to the 2014 IPC Athletics European Championships in Swansea in August as her next target for gold!
