CSPs supported to increase disability participation at a local level

On 15 May the English Federation of Disability Sport held the latest briefing for the focus County Sports Partnerships (CSPs). The day provided nine CSPs with a range of information from the staff team as well as better practice presentations from across England. The aim is to increase participation at a local level, providing support to key providers who engage with disabled people at grassroots.

The English Federation of Disability Sport (EFDS) is the national charity and body, dedicated to disabled people in sport and physical activity. As part of the wider support for sports providers, EFDS established these meetings in 2013 to bring CSPs together and share better practices.

EFDS announced the focus CSPs in February 2013. Our dedicated Engagement Officers work with the chosen nine across England so they can receive more concentrated support.

EFDS invites representatives from all focus CSPs to take part in the sessions which are held regularly during the year.

Feedback from CSPs who attended:

Peter Hull (Sport Hampshire & IOW):

“I found the meeting very helpful in understanding how we can begin to establish our county forum based on the experiences of others in the room. The Insight presentation was really informative and gives us some possible insight into how we can continue our progression on getting more disabled people active in the county. A thoroughly worthwhile day.”

Rowland Clark (Active Gloucestershire):

“I was asked to present on the progress we had made and it further strengthens our relationship with EFDS and the other Focus CSPs to share our experiences. The presentations delivered were very detailed and gave some really good food for thought with the communications presentation particularly being an area that we can do some work around straight away within our team. It's great to get the opportunity to network with the other CSPs too as we don’t see each other very often and these meetings give us a great opportunity to do this.”
