County Sports Partnerships become registered partners of Sainsbury's Active Kids for All Inclusive Community Training

42 out of 49 County Sports Partnerships across England have become registered partners of the Sainsbury’s Active Kids for All Inclusive Community Training Programme, which aims to increase the number of disabled people taking part in sport and physical activity.

This initiative, which is supported by £1 million of National Lottery funding from Sport England and is delivered by the English Federation of Disability Sport (EFDS) and sports coach UK, has been designed to improve knowledge, competence and confidence in delivering sports based activities to disabled people.

The training specifically targets those who support disabled people in the community but are not traditionally associated with the sporting landscape, such as support workers, parents and healthcare professionals. It is hoped that by providing training to this network, new opportunities for disabled people to access physical activity and sport will be created.

Through the programme, 10,000 individuals across England will benefit from a three-hour practical workshop, supported by online resources by October 2016.

All County Sports Partnerships across England have been offered the opportunity to become a registered partner for the programme, enabling them to host workshops in their local area.

To date, 42 County Sports Partnerships have become registered partners for the Inclusive Community Training and between them are planning over 70 courses by October 2014.

Of the training, a volunteer who attended a workshop in Birmingham said:

“Very good indeed, it felt really clear how step by step you can adapt, tailor and modify activities. The best inclusion training I have had in terms of making it manageable, realistic and practical.”
