Special guests at Essex football road show

Attendees at the first free Essex County FA ‘Community Road Show’ on Wednesday 2nd July will be able to examine the FA Community Shield silverware at close proximity when it drops in to Essex Record Office in Chelmsford, joined by former Premier League and Republic of Ireland footballer, Matt Holland.

The event will be hosted by Kirsty Clarke, Chair of the new Essex County FA Inclusion Advisory Group and the ex-Ipswich Town midfielder between 7:15pm and 9:00pm. Information will be shared to display ways of taking part in the game through coaching, refereeing, setting-up a club and getting involved in the decision-making processes at the County FA, increasing the representation of people from ethnic backgrounds.

There will be additional details about development programmes such as FA Tesco Skills and Vauxhall Mash-Ups, plus local Soccability club Healthy4Life will be amongst the contributors. Road Shows have previously proved to be an excellent forum environment to engage the wider community by sharing awareness of national and local initiatives on inclusion. They are a means of gathering intelligence to help construct county plans from season to season.

Essex County FA Inclusion Officer, Mark Healy, is looking forward to a productive evening: “The purpose of the event will be to share our developments in making the game more inclusive and accessible to people from underrepresented groups. This allows us to network with the ‘football family’, including those within and outside the football structures.”

“One key element is asking those attending a set of questions which will provide us with an insight into the perceptions and key priorities for grassroots football. This feedback will then help shape key working areas for the next county development plan. We’ve got the Community Shield coming along as well, which should be an additional draw to the event!”
