Training courses to promote exercise and disability

It is estimated that around 20% of the UK population have an impairment or medical condition, and yet disabled people are seriously under-represented within the leisure industry – both as gym users and most certainly within the workforce. To address this imbalance YMCAfit deliver two training courses – Exercise and Disability- a REP’s level 3 qualification and Instructability– a course designed to support disabled people to become gym instructors at REP’s level 2 and 3.

Exercise and Disability

This course has been developed as part of the Inclusive Fitness Initiative (IFI), which aims to make fitness facilities more accessible to disabled people, both in terms of the physical environment and the skills and attitudes of their staff.

The course will provide you with confidence and expertise in writing and delivering safe, effective and fun exercise programmes for a range of people with the disabilities including Down's syndrome, Asperger's syndrome, autism, cerebral palsy, spinal cord injury, limbless/amputation, visual impairment and hearing impairment.
