A marathon effort - meet some of our London Marathon fundraisers

The London Marathon takes place on Sunday 23 April, as ten people are set to take on the 26.2 mile course to raise money for Activity Alliance. Here we focus on three of those that will be on the start line this weekend.

Runners taking part in Virgin Money London Marathon

Samuele Boschi

Sam is originally from Chiaravalle, Italy but now works as a nurse in Leicester. They admit to having “never been a runner because I have always played football and running was not my cup of tea”. However, when outdoor activities were allowed during the pandemic they started to run. It began with 5 km at the beginning,  and has progressed all the way up to a half marathon.

“Now I am facing, and preparing myself for, this new adventure and challenge of the London Marathon. Wish me luck!”

Lucy Moore – Activity Alliance Trustee

“As a trustee I couldn’t be prouder and more delighted to be running for Activity Alliance in the London Marathon. Sport and physical activity has played a central role in my whole life and I am passionate that everyone should have the opportunity to enjoy being active in any way they choose. I’m feeling nervous and excited, but I’m sure the amazing London atmosphere and fabulous Activity Alliance supporters will get us through.”

John Somerville

John will be running his tenth London Marathon for Activity Alliance. He started long distance running 12 years ago. Since then he has gone on to complete 20 marathons and has “lost count of the number of half marathons”.

“I really enjoy getting the message out there about what Activity Alliance does. I’m also always astonished at the generosity of people. It’s always hard to keep asking for donations but I needn’t worry. People fully understand why you ask. I’ve never received any negative comments about my fundraising and I’m always really grateful for every penny received.”
