Slater swims to silver in Glasgow

Steph Slater was delighted to be on the podium tonight, after claiming silver for Team England at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games. In a race which saw Australian teenager, Maddison Elliott, set a new world record to win in the same race, the Para-swimming S8 100m freestyle was one to watch.

Elliott, the youngest Australian to win a gold medal at London 2012, beat the previous world record of 1:05.73 set by American Jessica Long. Elliott now 15, amazed crowds when she touched in a world record time of 1:05.32.

As well as silver, Slater, who is 23, set a European record of one minute 05.73 seconds.

"It's my first time competing internationally in freestyle so I am so happy. It has been hard to transition from swimming with two arms to one but I've been working hard and it is paying off. Next time it will be my turn to break the world record."
