Fitness Centre provides hearing impairment friendly sessions

Wolverhampton Swimming and Fitness Centre is now providing hearing impairment fitness sessions, taught by new recruit InstructAbility qualified gym instructor Ishtiaq Hussain.

Following a successful 12 week deaf friendly initiative, Ishtiaq Hussain has been appointed to the role of fitness instructor on a 12 hour contract beginning Tuesday 24 November 2014. As part of his role, Ish will be delivering three group workout sessions per week and delivering inductions and appointments to new and existing customers.

Ish says

“I understand the frustration and feeling of being isolated that so many of the deaf community experience when visiting a gym. I am thrilled to be able to overcome these barriers and directly support the deaf community into an accessible fitness environment.”

Jason Pitman, General Manager at Wolverhampton Swimming and Fitness Centre commented

“We’re absolutely delighted the InstructAbility work placement has proven a resounding success and provided the opportunity for us to continue and expand deaf friendly sessions at our facility. I am extremely thankful for Ish's determination and the voluntary support provided by BSL signers that has proved instrumental in incorporating deaf friendly sessions into our core activity programme.”
