Special Olympics GB athletes get huge boost ahead of World Games

With less than 200 go to until the 2015 World Summer Games in Los Angeles, the Special Olympics GB basketball team attended an exclusive Unified Sports basketball clinic with top NBA players.

Special Olympics Great Britain athletes Lewis Johnson from South Yorkshire, Daniel Large from Hertfordshire and George Dunkerley, Shaun Smith and Stuart Tipp, all from North Yorkshire were honoured to take part in the clinic on Wednesday 14 January.

Held at The O2 Arena in London and led by some of the top NBA players from the New York Knicks and Milwaukee Bucks, it was a great experience for them ahead of the World Summer Games in July.

Special Olympics GB CEO, Karen Wallin said:

"I am delighted that our athletes have been invited by the NBA to take part in this coaching clinic ahead of World Summer Games in Los Angeles.  It will be a great experience for them and all the young athletes involved."

The one-hour basketball clinic focused on the importance of team work and dedication at the court. It also included plenty of opportunities for the Special Olympics GB athletes to develop their dribbling, passing and shooting skills.

The session formed part of the NBA Global Games London 2015, which included a matchup between the New York Knicks and Milwaukee Bucks on Thursday 15 January.
