New workshop for school staff to support disabled children in PE
The Inclusive Activity Programme launches a new CIMSPA accredited workshop for schools during National School Sports Week.

A new workshop will provide teachers and school staff with the skills and confidence to include all pupils within PE.
Activity Alliance’s Inclusive Activity Programme (IAP) has launched a new CIMSPA accredited workshop specially designed to ensure children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) are included within PE and school sport.
Insight from our My Active Future report found only a quarter of disabled children say they take part in sport and activity all of the time at school, compared to 41% of non-disabled children. And that disabled children’s activity levels decrease significantly as they get older. The IAP schools workshop aims to support staff to close the PE participation gap for disabled children.
Chloe Studley, Head of Workforce at Activity Alliance, said:
“More than 465,000 children with special educational needs and disabilities have already benefitted from our Inclusive PE training. Now many more will enjoy the physical and mental health benefits of PE at school with the launch of this new training opportunity for school staff.
“We know that everyone working in school settings has the best interest of all pupils at heart, and delivering good quality inclusive PE is a vital part of that. Disabled children are motivated to take part in sport and physical activity to feel a sense of belonging and be more independent.
“This workshop helps build teachers’ confidence to ensure all disabled pupils can engage, progress and enjoy PE and school sport.”
The 3-hour workshop is delivered by Activity Alliance’s expert tutors, with activities tailored to learners' experiences. Groups will work through practical activities, inclusion principles, and creative solutions to explore how to better adapt PE.
Bespoke IAP school workshops can be arranged for groups 12 to 16 participants and cost £480.
