Disability Rights UK – 24 September 2025

What is Fitness to Disabled People? Rachel’s Story

As part of National Fitness Day, Disability Rights UK have launched a blog series with members of Get Yourself Active’s (GYA) Sounding Board. The Sounding Board are a group of disabled people who meet every two months with the GYA team to discuss present barriers that disabled people face in the sport and physical activity sector. New blogs will be published every Wednesday. This week you can read Rachel’s story.

Angus sets third Guinness World Records title at Swim Serpentine

Special Olympics City of Hull athlete Angus Leckonby set his third Guinness World Records title at London’s Swim Serpentine Open Water Swimming event on Saturday. Twenty-three-year-old Angus, who lives in Octon in the East Riding of Yorkshire, became the youngest person with an intellectual disability to complete a two-mile open water swim at London’s iconic Swim Serpentine event in Hyde Park.

As the summer of inclusive sport comes to a close, Access Sport has launched a bold new campaign to turn the country’s attention to inclusion at the grassroots level. Thanks to the incredible support of Ocean Outdoor, Digital Out of Home (DOOH) billboards will showcase powerful first-hand stories from young people who have overcome barriers and found belonging through inclusive community sport.

Disability Sports Coach are excited to present SEND October Half-Term Holiday sessions taking place at Southwark Park Sport and Athletic Centre from 28-30 October 2025. Free activity sessions available for all abilities aged five to 25 between 2-4pm.

Sense – September 2025

Help everyone access nature with Sensory Walks

Sense have partnered with Ordnance Survey to help you enjoy more meaningful walking experiences. The walks are designed for people with complex disabilities, but can be enjoyed by anyone. You can go alone or in a group, you don’t need any specialist equipment and the walks can be any length you like. Find out more at the link above.

WheelPower – September 2025

Middlesex WheelPower Sports Festival – 6 November

This popular event returns to the Aspire Leisure Centre, Stanmore, in November. Join WheelPower at their multi-sport festival suitable for anyone aged five and over with a physical disability. Take on taster sessions led by qualified coaches from inclusive local clubs with around 50 other participants. With four different sports on offer, there's something for everyone.
