Shining a Light on the Dwarf Sports Association UK
Ahead of Dwarfism Awareness Day tomorrow, we want to celebrate a remarkable organisation that has transformed lives through the power of sport, the Dwarf Sports Association UK (DSAuk).
As a National Disability Sports Organisation, DSAuk is dedicated to making sport both accessible and enjoyable for anyone with dwarfism across the United Kingdom. Through its vibrant network of regional groups and the flagship National Games, DSAuk provides opportunities for people of all ages to take part in a wide range of sporting activities from grassroots participation to elite competition.
But DSAuk is about so much more than sport. It’s about community, empowerment, and self-belief. The association uses sport as a powerful vehicle to break down barriers and challenge perceptions. They foster a culture of inclusion and mutual respect. For many members, DSAuk is not only a place to be active but also a place to belong. They build a community that celebrates individuality, friendship, and achievement in all its forms.
While DSAuk proudly supports those with ambitions to compete at the highest levels, including international and world-class events, its true heart lies in nurturing confidence and joy. The focus is not on being the best, but on feeling your best and embracing who you are. It is about discovering what you can do and realising your potential both in sport and in life.
Each year, the DSAuk National Games showcases talent, determination, and camaraderie. This four-day event features an array of sports from athletics and swimming to powerlifting, football, cycling and much more.
What a competitor said about taking part in the National Games:
“I always look forward to the games, it is definitely my favourite weekend of the year. The social aspects of the games is my favourite, this is a time for me to see my friends which I haven’t seen in a year and enjoy socialising with everyone.”
What a parent said about support at the National Games:
“What this organisation has created is amazing. The atmosphere and the sportsmanship is just unreal. My daughter was quite far behind the rest of the competitors in her 40m run/dash. But every single person in that stand shouted/hollered/cheered her on to the finish line. Every parent and child supports one another regardless of where they finish. To me everyone is there for each other. You celebrate everyone.”
Beyond the National Games, they also hold a National Badminton, Boccia and Shooting Tournament throughout the year. Also DSAuk’s regional groups run regular sessions offering members the chance to stay active, try new sports, and connect with others in a supportive environment.
Alongside their work delivering events and opportunities to take part, the organisation contributes to research on conditions related to dwarfism, helping to inform and improve their programmes.
